Promises, Promises

Over the last few years, I have done something different when it comes to preparing for a new year.

Rather than writing down a list of resolutions and goals I never tend to keep, I’ve come up with a single word summing up what I believed God wanted to do in my life in that new year.

In 2011, my word was courage, so in every aspect of my life – be it my job, ministry, or personal life – I chose to walk in courage.

In 2012, the word was favor, and I was amazed to see how God continued to pour favor into my life.

As I’ve been praying for this new year, and what God might have for me in it, a single word has been rolling around in my heart:

Promise

Both in current promises being fulfilled and new promises being made.

It’s a very humbling and exciting prospect.

“May the LORD, the God of your fathers, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised!” Deuteronomy 1:11

We serve a God who makes promises to His children.
Who gives us a glimpse into the direction our lives will take.

Some promises happen immediately. God gives us a promise and fulfills it in a matter of days.
Others take years, if not decades, to be realized.

We may not always see those promises come to pass the way we expect.
They may not always happen in our time frame.

But God’s promises always come to pass.

Walking in faith requires trusting God to fulfill His promises.

I’m excited to see how 2013 will pan out.
To discover what promises will be fulfilled, and what new promises will be given.

Because His promises are much better than any resolution I could come up with.

What promises are you believing God will fulfill for you in 2013?
