Life of Change

Jason VanaJason Vana

Change isn’t easy.

It requires us to give up the comfort of the known.
It pushes us into things we’ve never done before.
It forces us to reexamine the course of our lives.
It makes us wrestle with a new schedule, new routine and meeting new people.
It breaks in, interrupts our neatly planned lives and throws us a curveball.

We don’t tend to like change.

We may want it.
We may pray for things to be different.
We may desire something new in our lives.
We may realize the course of our life needs a redirect.

But change comes at a high cost.
One we would rather avoid.

“Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.'” – Matthew 8:20

Jesus never promised us a balanced life. He never promised us every desire we could ever want. He never said we would reach a level of contentment in life and stay there.

Jesus didn’t even have a place to lay his head.

Every day was a different experience.
Every moment a new adventure.
Every second an exercise in trust.

The life of faith is a life of constant change.

Change in the way we think.
Change in the way we act.
Change in how we relate to those around us.
Change in how we spend our time.
Change in who directs our lives.

Following this God who speaks in whispers and nudges means every day will be different.
Every moment a new opportunity.

We don’t serve a God of routine.
We serve a God who breaks in and disrupts our routine.

Following Him means we will live lives of constant change.

How is God bringing change into your life?
