He Knows the Plans

God’s plans rarely make sense to us.

We want His promises to come as quick and easy as possible.
Without hardship.
Or pain.
Or suffering through the agony of waiting.

We expect that straight path.
Point A to Point B in as little steps as possible.

But His plans never seem to go that way.

His plans are full of twists.
And turns.
Detours.
Delays.
Setbacks.
Tangents that seem to take us far off the course we expected.

We were expecting A.
We received T.

And we’re left feeling as if He didn’t have a plan.
Or forgot it somewhere along the way.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Jeremiah 29:11

God knows the plans He has for us.
He knows what He is doing.

He knows how every circumstance, every detour, every perceived delay, tangent, and setback is working to push us into the plans and promises He has given us.

Even if it makes no sense to us.

God’s plans rarely go as we expect,
but they always turn out for our best.

We may not see it now.
We may not understand how yesterday’s loss brings tomorrow’s joy.
We may not comprehend how the twists and turns are the best path to His promises.
We may not get why we have to go through the hardship to receive the blessing.

But He does.
And He works every circumstance, every delay, every detour and setback and hardship to bring about His plans in our lives.

We may not understand how the path we’re on will lead us into His promises.
And we don’t need to.

We just have to trust that, no matter the circumstance, God is in control.
And He knows what He is doing.

How is God using the delays, detours, and hardships in your path to push you closer to His promise?

It’s easy for us to say that we know God is in control and working for our good, but it’s another thing entirely to truly trust him in that. Letting go and feeling a peace about being in God’s hands through the ups and downs – that’s not an easy place to get to.

I’ve learned that God will allow us to be in circumstances that strip everything else away until all we have to trust is Him. It can be difficult, but it’s so necessary.

    Awesome post, Jason.
We were at an impasse about 6 months ago, crying out for God to show us what His plans were and where we were supposed to go. It has been incredible growing in Him and seeing His purposes as He’s kept calling us to trust Him one step at a time.

I know that feeling, Stephen. I’ve been in a few impasses like that myself. They can be really tough to get through, but they have the potential to really draw us closer to Christ.

First of all, the picture you have is perfect because the path to God’s promises are rarely straight on.
God has used the delays to strengthen character, understand how to seek him, find him, here is voice and THAT…is what has prepared me for the season I am in.

I used to think God’s plan was going to be up and to the right all the time. But it’s more of ups and downs and back steps, and moving sideways and sometimes going in circles. It can be tough to see the purpose in it all, but He always works everything out and uses it to build us into the people He wants us to be.

I think those delays and detours are a great opportunity to draw closer to God and His promises.

So true, Dan! It’s been those exact circumstances that have moved me closer to God than anything else.
